Sanur Bali – Beaches, Culture & Activities on the East Coast
Since the journey to the Gili Islands suddenly felt a bit too long for us, we made a short stop for one night in Sanur. Aside from the accommodation, Sanur did not really convince us, although we naturally did not see particularly much in that short amount of time. We basically just explored the immediate surroundings of our stay and walked a few meters along the coast. That is why we are keeping this post very short.
One more quick tip for you. On Sanur beach, there are a few locals selling grilled corn on the cob with butter and chili. Nico could not resist and was down with Bali Belly the very next day. If you want to avoid that, you should definitely skip the melted butter or prepare your stomach beforehand with probiotics just like Michaela did.
Restaurants in Sanur
During our short stay, we only visited two restaurants, but we can highly recommend both to you. Nelayan is located right on the beach and offers a great selection of Indonesian food, pasta, and cocktails. If you are looking for a delicious and very affordable breakfast, Café Akay is perfect. There you will find many different breakfast dishes like bagels for about 3 Euros or bowls for around 2,80 Euros.
Where to stay in Sanur?
Our accommodation in Sanur was one of the most aesthetic ones we had during our entire Bali trip. At around 75 euros per night, Casa da Sassy is not exactly cheap by local standards, but it is beautiful and very welcoming. We spent a truly relaxing day there. Since we did not like Sanur itself that much, the outdoor area with the pool and sun loungers was a welcome change. There is also a small outdoor kitchen where you can prepare your own barbecue. How to get to there & around?
We ordered a taxi via Grab for the journey from Ubud. The ride takes about 1.5 hours and costs 15 euros. We also took a taxi from our accommodation to the harbor. It cost about 12 euros and the trip took around 1 hour. You are dropped off directly in front of the harbor entrance so you only have to walk the last few meters on foot. We have clearly summarized all the information about the ticket offices at the harbor and helpful tips for the crossing in a separate section in our Bali Round Trip post.
